A 1921 vintage expression of whiskey from Old Overholt produced at the Large Distillery registered distillery #5 of the 23rd district in Pennsylvania. Overholt was granted a license to produce and bottle whiskey throughout prohibition and this release was distilled for them by the Large Distillery in 1921, just two years before they would shut. As Overholt was permitted to bottle whiskey for medicinal use this use of Large distillery suggests the firm was contracting fresh stocks from permitted distilleries despite prohibition beginning in Pennsylvania in 1919. Overholt operated both the West Overton and Broad Ford distilleries under one banner but when prohibition hit, West Overton was closed and the remaining equipment moved to Broad Ford. Broad Ford bottled whiskey during prohibition for medicinal purposes and was reopened post prohibition by National Distillers before it ultimately closed in 1958. The Old Overholt label was produced throughout the 20th century using sourced distillate and in 1987 Jim Beam acquired National Distillers, including Old Overholt. Hence 90s and onwards bottles are crafted from Jim Beam distilled rye whiskey.
