Wine Category Lead

Salary range: $110,000–$145,000 + equity.
About This Role
BAXUS built its reputation in rare spirits. Now we are expanding into wine, one of the largest and most fragmented alternative asset classes in the world. We need someone who knows wine inside and out to lead the category from launch.
You will own the wine vertical end-to-end: sourcing, authentication, pricing, partnerships, and go-to-market. You will work with the CEO and operations team to bring BAXUS into wine with the same rigor and collector trust we have built in spirits.
What You'll Do
- Define the wine category strategy: which regions, producers, and price points to launch with
- Build relationships with wineries, negociants, collectors, and auction houses
- Develop authentication and grading standards for wine (provenance, storage history, condition)
- Work with the data team to build wine pricing and valuation models
- Navigate three-tier regulatory requirements for wine commerce
- Drive supply acquisition and seller onboarding for the wine category
- Collaborate with marketing on wine-specific content and community building
What We're Looking For
Must Have
- 5+ years in the wine industry (trade, auction, retail, importing, or collecting)
- Deep knowledge of fine wine markets, pricing dynamics, and provenance verification
- Existing network of relationships with producers, collectors, and industry players
- Understanding of US alcohol licensing and compliance (three-tier system, state-by-state rules)
- Entrepreneurial mindset — you are building a category, not maintaining one
Nice to Have
- WSET, Court of Master Sommeliers, or equivalent credentials
